Q: Email settings for Outlook on Macintosh OS

A: Please note that Microsoft no longer provides security updates for Mac Outlook and Mac Internet Explorer. If you are using these two products please note that many functions for the email client are no longer secure and most secure websites (example, banking websites) will not work using Internet Explorer. Please use Mac OS alternatives: Safari as your web browser and Mac Mail for your Email.

Below you will find instructions for Mac Outlook Express program, but extensive support cannot be provided for this Email program.

  1. Open up your Outlook program then click on "Mail" and then "Preferences".
  2. Click on "Create Account".
  3. Then fill in the information as follows:
    E-mail address: your SmarttNet email address example: For SmarttNet e-mail addresses
                                                                                              For Bcinternet e-mail addresses
                                                                                              For corporate e-mail addresses

    Full Name: your name as you wish for it to appear in the from field of your emails
    Host Name: for SmarttNet and Bcinternet e-mails:; for corporate e-mails: (for webmail)
    User Name: your username is your e-mail address, for example username would be
    Password: your selected password for your new e-mail account
    SMTP Server: if you use SmarttNet as your Internet Service Provider (ISP):, if you use another ISP you must contact them and ask one of their customer service representatives for the correct SMTP Server name.
    If "Use authentication when sending mail" please disable it.

  4. Click OK to save the information and exit the mail preferences page.
