Xiaomi, a booming Chinese phone vender, reached 1 billion app downloads yesterday. Its Android-based app store, MIUI, has received 5 million daily downloads and gained 17 million active users within just a year of its launch. These figures are set to grow even more as the sales of Xiaomi devices are expected to increase tremendously.
With the blossom of Xiaomi smartphones and MIUI apps, Canadian brands and advertisers may have a new way to penetrate the Chinese market. Canadian brands can target Chinese consumers using mobile ads on Xiaomi devices, which are expected to sell 15 million units by the end of 2013. This will help domestic companies such as Bank of Montreal further capture the Chinese market which is predicted to become the world’s largest economy by 2017.
